New Season of Life & Work

August 10, 2012, 7 Comments

The four years I’ve worked at LifeWay have been a great adventure. I started in our Church Resource Division (CRD) working with our discipleship team producing short-term Bible studies. During that time, I worked with authors like Kelly Minter, Dennis Pethers, Henry Blackaby, and Max Lucado. To say the least, I was blessed by the work.

Eventually I transitioned over to the work that I’m in now. For the last few years, I’ve led the ministry development work with Ed Stetzer and the crew in LifeWay Research. It’s been fun to do the work of leading internal initiatives, writing, speaking at conferences, and interacting with leaders from church networks and denominations.  Just last week, we hosted 130 leaders from 50 different denominations for the Church Planting Leadership Fellowship. It is amazing to watch groups from across the Evangelical spectrum learn together.

The time here LifeWay Research has afforded me the opportunity to work on several book projects plus travel internationally a bit. (Have I mentioned how much I love Europe and want to move there some day?)

But… changes are always just around the corner… so…

Today, I’m announcing a change in my work at LifeWay. Beginning August 15, I’m headed back to CRD to serve as the Director for Adult Ministry Publishing. It is an honor to get the promotion and be given the responsibility. In the new role, I will give leadership to a team of great people who produce the ongoing curriculum, Bible studies, and magazines. To say the least, it is exciting to serve in such a capacity. And, a bit daunting. But, I feel certain that this is the next phase of life and ministry for me so I’m ready to jump in with both feet.

Along with my work at LifeWay, I will continue to serve as a Teaching Pastor for The Fellowship. Angie, the boys, and I love our church and are excited about the direction we are taking by moving to a multi-site model. As you have a moment and it comes to mind, please pray for our lead pastor Matt Surber. He’s a great friend and I could not ask for a better guy to shepherd our church and my family.

From time to time, I’ll give updates about the roles I play in life. But I also want to hear from you. What are some of the changes that you are experiencing? Work? Family? Life? What are your “I’m on a new/crazy/fun/unexpected ride” updates?

My family and I have recently started a new journey here in Middle Tennessee with a new church family.

Changing churches after a cross-country move was harder than expected, but we are enjoying being more involved now and developing deeper relationships.

We finally feel like we are putting down roots.

Congratulations! It was great to meet you this week. Hope we’ll have the opportunity to work together.

I haven’t experienced change, yet. But I know it’s coming.

I’m experiencing some change in my job here at LifeWay Christian Resources. Our division just promoted some guy to be the new Director, and I hear he’s a real rough-and-tough.

    Pray for us!

    🙂 Congrats, Philip.
