For the last few years, I have served in a couple of bivocational capacities for our church family. It has morphed into a position of serving as an elder and a teaching pastor. To get ready for 2014, I’ve been praying diligently about what I should pray diligently about for the next season of our church’s life. Here are six issues that have come to the top of my list.
Adults professing faith. Over the last twelve months, we have seen many people baptized with a large percentage of them being children and teenagers. I am grateful for every one of them. For 2014, my number one prayer is that we will see an increase in the number of our members sharing their faith and leading other adults to a personal relationship with Jesus. I desperately want to see many more people come to faith in Christ.
Multiplication of LifeGroups. We believe that ministry and discipleship occurs best in the context of small groups; which we call LifeGroups. I am praying for us to see new groups form for those who are just getting to know our church and are investigating faith in Jesus. Additionally, my prayer in this is for a new batch of people will step into leadership roles for our LifeGroups.
Encouraged church family. Our church has experienced a great deal of chaos over the past five years. I’ve not been there for all of it and it seems like I learn a new detail each week. For the year ahead, I hope that we can see our church members encouraged and unified. They are such a willing group of people who simply want to minister. I am praying for all of us to experience personal growth together.
Increased financial generosity. The church is founded on the generosity of God in giving His Son for our salvation. I pray that we will reflect that in the manner that we give of our resources and go into the ministries to which we are called.
Encouraged staff members. I love the leaders of our church family. One of the reasons I respect them so much is that they have stayed even after having gone through the proverbial wringer. Nevertheless, they have a deep hope in Christ growing our church. My prayer is that they will continue to grow in their leadership abilities and feel constant encouragement for in their ministry.
The Fellowship is a church that my family loves deeply. We are honored to serve the Lord through serving this local body of Christ. It will be a challenging year ahead as we will certainly face challenges but our faith is increasing and our hope is sure. Let’s charge together into the mission field with our eyes firmly on Christ, the gospel on our lips, our arms locked together, and our aim to care for those in darkness.
